Condition
Great level and very good label. The vintage slip is slightly scuffed and awry as shown, though the vintage is clearly legible.
About
Grignolino is widely grown in the Asti region of Piedmont. It makes light colored wines with very fruity aromas, strong acidity and tannins. The name Grignolino derives from the word grignole which, in the local Piedmontese dialect, means 'many pips. This abundance of pips contributes to the strong tannins associated with the wine, which should make them ideal for ageing, though modern winemakers try to reduce the tannins with gentle and slow pressings.
As a winery, Fontanafredda have the deepest roots and are still making great wines today. They are known primarily for their Barolos, though their range extends to great whites including Gavi and Arneis as well as an excellent (sparkling) Asti.
