About
Lying just 1.5 kilometers from Château Margaux, Château Marquis de Terme is in the heart of one of the greatest wine producing areas in the world. With top vintages of Château Margaux selling for more than GBP1,000 per bottle and the 1979 for more than GBP400.00, Marquis de Terme represents great value. Whilst 1979 was not the most highly rated vintage for Margaux, wine critic Robert Parker reviewed Marquis de Terme favourably, above the wines of Château Lascombes and Brane Cantenac.
The wine is typically made up of a blend of around two thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, a third Merlot and a small amount of Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is 35 years, which tends to result in lower yields than with younger vines meaning higher quality grapes and more concentration of fruit. As with many estates in Bordeaux, Marquis de Terme dates back several hundred years and was given its name in 1762 and is still a family winery today.
