About
Château Talbot is one of the most prominent and well-known properties and wines of Bordeaux. Its name actually originates from English aristocracy, Connetable Talbot, the Earl of Shrewsbury though its history is yet more intriguing...
Château Talbot was one of two wines from which the 'French Paradox' was identified. In 1934, the then owner, Désiré Cordier, observed (backed by statistics) that in the Médoc, life expectancy was higher than the national average. He credited this to wines from the Médoc and more particularly Saint-Julien since there were more octogenarians there than anywhere else, which proved conclusively that good wine is the elixir of long life. This reflected the opinion of many American and French cardiologists who demonstrated that the polyphenols of great wines effectively contribute to the prolongation of good cardiovascular circulation, thereby reducing cardiac failure.
