Kaiken created this Terroir Series blend to highlight the individual qualities of three grape varieties grown in carefully selected Mendoza vineyards. Malbec and Petit Verdot come from Vista Flores in the Uco Valley, while Bonarda is sourced from Agrelo in Luján de Cuyo. The vineyards lie at elevations ranging from approximately 950 to 1,400 metres.
Malbec forms the heart of the wine, providing ripe fruit and a naturally silky texture. Petit Verdot introduces structure and freshness, while Bonarda contributes an additional layer of lively fruit. The result is a blend designed around balance rather than simply concentration or power.
The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully selected before fermentation in small tanks. The finished wine spent ten months in a combination of new and previously used French-oak barrels, allowing the fruit and structural elements to integrate.
The 2016 growing season was marked by unusually cool conditions and slow ripening. This makes the vintage particularly interesting for customers exploring how growing conditions and bottle age can influence a wine's character, although the precise development of an individual bottle will depend on its storage history.
This wine is particularly well suited to roast beef, grilled steak and slow-cooked lamb. Its combination of ripe fruit, freshness and structure also makes it an appealing partner for mushroom dishes, hearty casseroles and mature cheeses.
Serve at approximately 15–17°C. Kaiken recommends decanting for around 30 minutes to help reveal the wine's aromas and flavours. With an older bottle, assess its condition when opened and decant gently if needed.
