About
Located in the Alentejo region in southern Portugal, Herdade do Peso is one of the Guedes family's many wineries scattered across the globe. With skilled winemaker Luis Cabral de Almeida in charge, the wines are expressive and generous, reflecting the different varieties and vineyard charateristics that they come from.
Sossego means tranquilty, reflecting the peaceful countryside where the grapes are grown. This white is a blend of three grape varieties which are indigenous to Portugal, namely 75% Antão Vaz, 20% Arinto/Pedernã and 5% Roupeiro. After harvest, the grapes are cooled before pressing as this preserves the aromas and freshness in the wine. The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed before being fermented in stainless steel vats for around 18 days at a controlled temperature (16 degrees). The wine is unoaked, being kept for three months in stainless steel before being chill-filtered (chilling causes and sediment to sink to the bottom of the vat) and then bottled.
Ideal with...
Surprisingly good with warm cheese dishes, such as baked camembert (with a warm crusty baguette) and is a good match for fish dishes with or without a sauce.
