About
Fattoria dei Barbi have been producing Brunello since 1892 and were the first to export it to Europe, America and Asia. The blue label has widely been acknowledged as the best in its class and has been winning awards and accolades since the 19th century. The fact that this wine has been produced for so long is in itself, testament to its quality and unwavering commitment of the winemakers from one generation to the next.
The Brunello is made with 100% sangiovese grape from their best vineyards. Prior to fermentation the grapes are subjected to a cold pre-fermentative maceration which involves cooling the grapes at a temperature of 16 degrees. This process increases the extraction of aroma compounds and the all-important polyphenols which, as well as having health qualities, are essential for tannins and overall balance in the wine. After fermentation, the wine is aged in small oak barrels for a few months before being transferred to larger barrels for a total of two years before bottling. The wine is released no sooner than 4 months after bottling.

Red meat, game and mature cheeses are all good matches. That said, our personal favourites are duck breast served pink and vegetable lasagna (made with cherry tomatoes, courgette, aubergine, red pepper, herbs de Provence and a high quality mature cheddar).
