Tasting Notes
Deep garnet with flecks of montmorency cherry, there are redcurrents and cherries on the palate, married with slightly tart blackberries. Smooth tannins reinforce the fruit and give way to a luscious, dry finish.
About
Cave de Fleurie is the story of men and women who, for four generations, have been working together to produce the best of the terroir and characters of their range of wines. Established in 1927, this is a family style cooperative with growers and winemakers from different generations working, during the formative years, under the guidance and reins of the undisputed 'Queen of Beaujolais', Marguerite Chabert.
With hand pruning, trimming and harvesting, this is a very carefully made wine. Even the pressing is done gently with grapes transferred into the presses through a system of conveyor belts. Fermented in individual vats to retain its integrity, the wine is then aged for a short period in oak barrels.
Ideal with...
This Fleurie can be enjoyed with meaty fishes, such as halibut and monkfish, though works equally well with pork tenderloin and roasted vegetables. A favourite to date is also camembert cheese, served at room temperature with a warm crusty baguette.
