Sake

Sake, known as Japanese rice wine, is made by fermenting rice that has had some or most of its bran removed (polished rice). In general it is slightly sweet, smooth, and a light drink with a clean finish, often with fruity flavours such as apples and bananas.

Sake comes in different categories depending on how polished the rice is. The more polished, the lighter and more delicate the flavours become.

Despite its name, Sake is not a wine, nor even a beer. In fact it has traits of both as it is both fermented like wine and brewed like beer.
