Why Choose Bodegas Manzanos Wines?

Bodegas Manzanos is a long-established family Rioja producer whose wines offer several different ways to explore the region. Rather than presenting everything under a single label or style, the Manzanos portfolio includes different ranges with their own identities, from the accessible Finca Manzanos wines to more distinctive expressions such as Voché.

That variety can also make the producer slightly confusing at first. Names including Manzanos, Finca Manzanos, 1890 and Voché can appear across the wines, but they are connected through the same producer. Understanding those relationships makes it much easier to see what Bodegas Manzanos offers and whether its wines are worth exploring.

If you are already interested in the producer and simply want to choose a bottle, view our Bodegas Manzanos wines. If you would first like to understand the producer and its different ranges, continue with the guide below.

Why Explore Bodegas Manzanos?

Bodegas Manzanos combines a long family history in Rioja with a portfolio broad enough to show quite different sides of the region. Its attraction is not simply that it makes a large number of wines, but that its different ranges can provide different ways into the producer.

Some wines offer an accessible introduction to Manzanos and Rioja, while others draw more strongly on the family's established reputation or explore more individual winemaking ideas. That makes Manzanos useful if you like the reassurance of an established Rioja producer but do not necessarily want every bottle you explore to offer the same experience.

Why we stock Bodegas Manzanos: Our Manzanos range developed for several different reasons. The 1890 wines we originally encountered were highly regarded within the wine trade and felt like wines a good independent merchant should represent. Voché brought interesting points of difference and gave us something less conventional to talk about, while Finca Manzanos provided a more affordable entry into the producer. Together, those different sides of Manzanos give us much more than simply several wines carrying the same producer name.

Who Are Bodegas Manzanos?

The Fernández de Manzanos family has been involved in wine for generations, with the present business bringing that history together with modern wineries and vineyards in Rioja. Today the producer works across a substantial portfolio, but family ownership and the development of different wine ranges remain important parts of its identity.

For a Rioja customer, the important point is not the size or corporate structure of the business. It is that Manzanos has enough breadth to make wines with different purposes and personalities rather than requiring every wine to conform to one recognisable house style.

Finca Manzanos, 1890 and Voché – What's the Difference?

The names can look more complicated than they really are. Bodegas Manzanos is the producer, while Finca Manzanos and Voché are distinct ranges within its wider portfolio. The name 1890 also appears prominently within Manzanos branding and, in particular, alongside the current Finca Manzanos identity.

Finca Manzanos and 1890 Finca Manzanos

Finca Manzanos was developed by the fourth generation of the Fernández de Manzanos family around the family's château-style winery and surrounding vineyards. Today you may see the wines presented as 1890 Finca Manzanos, which explains why bottles and product names from different periods do not always appear to follow exactly the same naming convention.

For us, Finca Manzanos has also served an important practical purpose: it provides an accessible route into the producer. That means someone can discover Manzanos without necessarily beginning with one of its more ambitious wines.

Voché

Voché shows another side of Manzanos. The range is associated with more individual winemaking ideas and the personal vision of Víctor Fernández de Manzanos, with wines intended to have their own character rather than simply extending the Finca range under another label.

That distinction was one of the reasons we originally chose to stock Voché. The wines gave us interesting differences in style and winemaking to offer customers who wanted to explore beyond more familiar Rioja expressions.

What About the Other Manzanos Wines?

The wider Manzanos portfolio includes further wines and labels reflecting the family's long history and different approaches to Rioja. The important thing when shopping is not to memorise the producer's brand structure. It is simply to recognise that different names on the bottles can represent different expressions from the same winemaking family.

Once that relationship is understood, the useful question changes from "Are these all the same producer?" to "Which of these Manzanos wines best suits what I want?" That is the point at which the Bodegas Manzanos wine collection becomes the better place to continue.

What Style of Rioja Does Manzanos Make?

There is no single Manzanos style that adequately describes the whole range. Across its different labels, the producer works with familiar Rioja grapes and established ageing traditions while also making wines that explore different vineyard, grape and winemaking ideas.

That breadth is part of the attraction. A customer can encounter approachable younger wines, mature Rioja, white and rosé expressions and wines whose individual character or method gives them a more distinctive reason for existing.

If your main uncertainty is how Rioja's Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva classifications differ, our Rioja ageing and classification guide owns that decision. If you are more interested in Rioja that cannot be understood simply through the ageing ladder, our Beyond the Rioja Ageing Ladder guide explores those other ways of choosing.

Are Bodegas Manzanos Wines Right for Me?

Manzanos is particularly worth exploring if you like the idea of staying with an established Rioja producer while having quite different styles and price points available to you. You do not need to be looking for one particular type of Rioja before the producer becomes relevant; the breadth of its ranges is precisely what creates several possible ways in.

You might first encounter Manzanos because you want an accessible Rioja, because you recognise one of its established wines, or because something more individual such as Voché has caught your attention. Those are different starting points, but all can lead naturally into exploring the wider producer.

Merchant Tip: Don't worry too much about remembering which Manzanos name belongs to which range. Use them as clues to the breadth of the producer rather than as another Rioja classification system. Once you know you are interested in Manzanos, concentrate on the style of wine you actually want to drink.

Choosing a Bodegas Manzanos Wine

If the producer now sounds interesting, the next decision is no longer about understanding Bodegas Manzanos — it is about choosing between its wines. Our Bodegas Manzanos collection brings the different ranges together so you can compare the wines without first having to choose between Finca Manzanos, Voché or another Manzanos label.
