Tasting Notes
Bold, deep and brazen, this is a very expressive red wine with aromas of red ripe fruits, blackberries and hints of spice and balsamic vinegar. On the palate it is wide, meaty and mouthfilling with ripe fruits and soft tannins leading to a long, fruity aftertaste.
About
An impressive 250 families make up the Bodega Cooperative de Pinosa which was established in 1932. In 1996, the winery underwent an impressive modernisation program which continues to this day. It is is now also focussed on ecological projects and as a result, the winery is sustainable with pestisides banned and increased biodiversity of their different ecosystems.
Cristatus Montastrell is made with 100% monastrell, harvested by hand at its optimum ripeness. The juice, skins and pulp are fermented (macerated) together for at 20-24 degrees for 5 to 10 days in stainless steel vats before filtering and ageing. This process extracts the maximum character of the grape including, as well as the fruit flavours, the important phenols and tannins, which give the wine its body and balance (as well as the health properties of the phenols).
Ideal with...
On its own, this wine is no shrinking violet and if you like a full-bodied, fruity number, this is for you. It works well too with spicy, herby, tomato-based dishes as well as the usual suspects of red meats, sausages, casseroles, etc.
