Scoring an impressive 94-96 points by renown wine critic Robert Parker, with the following tasting note:
'The spectacular 1996 Barolo Cannubi Boschis offers aromas of cassis, cherry liqueur, and flowers. It is dense, superb, full-bodied, with fabulous intensity as well as layers of extract. Muscular, concentrated, broad, and powerful, it demands 5-6 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2020.'
A true Garagiste wine, Sandrone's story began in the 1970s, literally in the family garage. The first vintage sold was the 1978 with a tiny production of just 1,500 bottles. They hit the stage when Robert Parker awarded the 1990 vintage of the Cannubi Boschis 99 points and went from strength to strength from there with none of the subsequent vintages scoring less than 90 points. Quite an achievement for such a new player.
Now a family business, the collection includes five labels comprising of two Barolos, a Nebbiolo d'Alba, a Barbera d'Alba and a Dolcetto (which literally means 'little sweet one') d'Alba.
A very versatile wine,Cannubi Boschis Barolo is a sublime match for meats, pasta and cheeses. Because of its sheer finesse and complexity, avoid very gamey meats. Confit duck leg and slowly roasted pork work superbly well.
