Tasting Notes
Grapefruit and passion fruit abound in this multi-dimensional Sauvignon Blanc. There is a lovely flinty, minerally backbone to the wine too which harmonises beautifully with the fruit and vibrant acidity of the wine.
About
Originally founded by Kim and Erica Crawford in 1996, they have since sold the winery to the Constellation group, who have protected and continue the Crawfords style of quality and consistency.
Named after the former World War II air force base in Marlborough where the first vines for this wine were planted. Today, the grapes comes from the Awarua Vineyard, which is Kim Crawford's newest flagship site, producing fruit of exceptional quality and flavour. Great care is taken during the vinification process with the grapes destemmed, pressed and allowed to drain for three hours and a long, slow, cold fermentation. This ensures that the grapefruit and passion fruit characteristics are retained, with early bottling locking them in.
Ideal with...
This is an outstanding Fine Wine which compliments fine food such as scallops, oysters and lobster. It is VERY moreish - maybe keep an extra bottle in fridge for when your friends have quaffed the first one!
